Storing
Purchase a strong lock - be smart when it comes to securing your unit
Leave a gap between the walls and your possessions for ventilation
Lay a blue tarp, plastic sheets or skids down underneath belonging, boxes and furniture
Placing an opened bag of kitty litter inside your storage unit can absorb moisture in the air and provides optimum freshness.
Don’t forget to leave a walkway through your contents so you can access the back of your unit easily
Store frequently used or needed items at the front of your unit to access easily when needed and stack similar boxes together to maximize space.
If storing during a rainy or snowy day, ensure to dry off the surfaces of any items as you place them in your unit to avoid damage
If storing motorized items (i.e. a lawnmower, quad, snowmobile or vehicle) place cardboard under the motor so that any drips are absorbed by the cardboard to minimize the risk of damage to other items you have stored.
Packing
Use plastic storage containers to store your valuable possessions - we recommend using new good quality boxes/containers that can be sealed/taped on the top and bottom and secured tightly.
Place fabric softener sheets inside boxes and containers to keep items such as bedding or clothing smelling fresh.
If storing mattresses, be smart - wrap in proper covers for protection and if storing delicate items we recommend bubble wrap or sheets for extra coverage
Label boxes/containers on top and on at least one side to help identify what’s inside to make it easier when searching for items
